As the AngloGold Ashanti Ltd/Independence Group NL Tropicana JV surges towards first production in the December quarter 2013, Independence managing director Chris Bonwick said effective planning had been critical in keeping capital costs in check.Tropicana, of which AngloGold (70%) is the manager, was given the green light for construction in 2010 and since then capital costs estimates have remained in the $740 million real ($775 million nominal) range."I think it has been very good long-term planning," Bonwick said."One of the key things is that most of the contracts are fixed price and that has helped us to keep costs down. At the moment we are on time and on budget and we expect that to keep on going."
