Built in the southeast region of the city of Goiania in Brazil,this municipal stadium is dedicated to football (soccer) pratice and has capacity for 50,000 spectators. Unlike most football stadiums,which have little dialogue with their environs,here all efforts have been made to connect the building to the urban space that surrounds it.The rings of stands are separated into 2 parts: upper and lower. Visitors enter the building through galleries in the middle level,between the rings of stands,and can walk all the way around the stadium,always with expansive views of the immediate neighborhood and city beyond. Behind the goals,the upper ring is interrupted,forming 2 squares with urban elements like gardens,trees,and water features. Here,the architect forfeits a considerable number of seats to unequivocally include the city within the stadium itself.As the lower ring is buried,relative to the level of the surrounding squares,the view from the exterior shows a fairly low building,with a controlled volume in harmony with the surrounding spaces.
