Demand for hot rolled plate is inconsistent. Customers are reluctant to carry excess stock at yearend, especially amid price uncertainty. Delivery lead times from US mills are shrinking. Inventories of hot rolled coil remain high, relative to the current level of demand. Distributors’ margins are squeezed, due to the downward price trend.
