Concrete Institute of Australia Honorary Member,and UNSW Dean of Engineering,Professor Stephen Foster has been elected President of the International Federation for Structural Concrete(fib).The fib,which is the acronym for its French name,Federation Internationale du Beton,is an international association formed by 45 national member groups and approximately 1000 corporate and individual members.The Concrete Institute of Australia is recognised as the national member group representing Australia,and Professor Foster is the head of our delegation.The mission of fib is to develop at an international level the study of scientific and practical matters capable of advancing the technical,economic,aesthetic and environmental performance of concrete construction.The Concrete Institute of Australia has a long and proud history with fib over the last 50 years.This includes the CIAs first foray into international conferences,holding a Symposia on Short to Medium Span Bridges and Prestressed Concrete in Buildings in 1976.This was followed by the Institute hosting the fib international Congress at the 1995 conference in Brisbane,and as a standalone event in Melbourne in 2018 to over 700 delegates.
