Brazil’s total coke imports and exports each rose by over 40pc in 2021 from a year earlier as a change in domestic fuel distri- bution contracts lifted seaborne trade. Brazil imported 3.72mn t of green and calcined coke last year, up by 41pc from 2020 and the highest amount since 2014, when the country imported just under 4mn t, according to customs data compiled by Global Trade Tracker (GTT). The country exported 1mn t of coke as well, a historical high in data going back to 2014. Both imports and exports received a boost from state-controlled Petrobras’ move to divide up its fuel distribution contracts in early 2021.
