The center of Canada’s hydrocarbon economy, Alberta may havesufficient resources to achieve a net-zero emission power sector by2035, according to a new report from the province’s grid operator thathighlights the considerable opportunities, costs and reliability risks ofsuch a sweeping energy transition.The Alberta Electric System Operator’s analysis, which lays outthree scenarios with the best chances of succeeding within theprovince’s current deregulated electricity market structure, comes asCanada’s federal government considers a clean electricity standardto establish a net-zero grid by 2035 and after consultation withstakeholders.
