Irving-ExxonMobil said it has awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to Technip Energies for the "world's largest" low-carbon hydrogen facility planned at ExxonMobil's integrated refining and petrochemical complex in Baytown, Texas (PCN, 7 Mar 2022, p 3). The proposed hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) project would produce up to 1-billion cu ft/d of blue hydrogen, while capturing and permanently storing over 98% of associated carbon dioxide (C02) emissions. A final investment decision is expected by 2024, with start-up planned in 2027-2028.
