摘要

QUESTIONS ASKED: Can a lay health worker trained to screen patients' cancer symptoms improve patient-reported satisfaction with their care and self-reported overall and mental or emotional health? What impact does such an intervention have on 12-month health care use and total costs of care? SUMMARY ANSWER: The intervention was associated with improvements in patient-reported satisfaction with care overtime and improvements in self-reported overall health and mental or emotional health. The intervention was also associated with reductions in emergency department visits and hospitalizations and total health care spending.
