In 1992, FlyPast covered the epic flight of a B-24 Liberator from Texas across the Atlantic to Norwich Airport as a tribute to the men and women of the 2nd Air Division USAAF. British pilot David Hastings was a member of the crew and writes: "2022 is the 30th anniversary of B-24 Liberator Diamond Lil of the former Confederate Air Force (now Commemorative Air Force) crossing the Atlantic. Fondly remembered by many in the UK and in the US, the project was part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the arrival in the UK of the United States Eighth Army Air Force. It was led by the late Tom Eaton who was chairman of the Memorial Trust of the 2nd Air Division USAAF in Norwich, and myself, a fellow Trust governor and pilot. Tom felt it was essential a B-24 took part if a proper tribute was to be paid to the men and women of the 2nd Air Division USAAF and told me to 'find a B-24 and bring it to Great Britain'. Thanks to the Confederate Air Force and many sponsors on both sides of the Atlantic, the dream became a reality.
