SKion Water has ramped up its exposure to the growing water chemicals market in Brazil by acquiring a 60% stake in family-owned business Faxon Quimica. Faxon has an estimated 3% share of the $1 billion-a-year market for water chemicals in Brazil, and has carved out a unique niche by developing a logistics arm alongside its specialty chemicals business. "They develop tailor-made formulations for their customers, which is a key service that makes a difference," explained SKion Water CEO Reinhard Huebner. "They are largely in the specialty chemicals segment, but they are able to deliver at reasonable prices because they have their own truck fleet which delivers from three locations across Brazil," he told GWI. Faxon's client base is mainly industrial, and a considerable amount of the company's time is spent optimising chemical formulations for its clients. This has the dual benefit of improving the environmental footprint of its customers' operations, while saving them money.
