Petrobras has launched a tender to contract a pioneering titanium subsea solution for a quartet of floating production, storage and offloading vessels in the giant Buzios pre-salt field. The Brazilian state-controlled oil company is offering an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract, which sources pegged will be worth more than $500 million, designed to replace old and potentially compromised flexible pipes in Buzios with more resistant rigid risers featuring titanium materials. Denominated internally as Titanium Pull-In Tube (TiPT), the new Petrobras patented technology calls for the installation of rigid risers featuring the use of titanium stress joints on the top of each line.
