摘要

RUSSIA'S prolonged war with Ukraine has increased risks of cyberattacks for oil and gas companies, according to a top official at Petrobras. "We all have to be worried," said Marcia Tosta, chief information security officer at the Brazilian state-owned oil giant, in an interview with Upstream at the Rio Oil & Gas 2022 conference. "Every day we get new threats, and the attacks are evolving," the long-time cybersecurity expert observed. "The problem is going to get worse," she warned. Although vulnerabilities were increasing prior to the war, companies are now facing more threats, Tosta said. "The war is an important factor," Tosta said. "All evidence shows wars today are more and more digital than they were before." "We're all more linked and impacted," she added. The ransomware attack in 2021 on the Colonial Pipeline, a US oil pipeline from Texas to New York, temporarily shut down its operations and served as a wake-up call to the industry. It was the result of phishing, said Gustavo Peluso, head of the oil and gas practice at consultancy Falconi.
