An expected rise in German installed and available capacity is set to support further coal burn and a rise in coal deliveries to Europe in the winter months. German available capacity is set to rise to reach 14.78GW in November and December, according to the latest EEX forecast. This compares with average available capacity in September of just 10.95GW. Western European installed capacity, meanwhile, for the countries of Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the UK and Ireland, including operational plants and units that have been put on reserve by governments, could see European nations call on 39.2GW of hard coal-fred generation capacity this winter.
