摘要

Objective: adolescents and young adults are a unique sub-population within oncology, with different and often unmet needs. the current study investigated the relationships between cancer-related self-efficacy, cancer-related fatigue, and quality of life, with the hypothesis that fatigue would mediate the negative relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life for adolescents and young adults impacted by cancer. Methods: structural equation modeling was utilized to examine the pathways between these variables. Results: as predicted, results (n = 265, 92.8% female) demonstrated a strong positive relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life. Fatigue partially but significantly mediated the pathway between self-efficacy and quality of life. Conclusions: it appears that cancer-related self-efficacy may work, at least in part, through the mediating variable of fatigue, to influence quality of life for adolescents and young adults.
