EQUINOR and BP plan to transform New York's South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) into a hub for the US offshore wind industry. The two European majors expressed interest in the terminal when they established sale-and-purchase agreements for their joint Empire Wind and Beacon Wind projects, which will supply about 3.3 gigawatts of energy to New York. The terminal will be one of the largest dedicated offshore wind port facilities in the US at about 73.1 acres and is the only industrial waterfront site in the New York City area that has the capacity to accommodate wind turbine generator staging and assembly activities at the scale required by component manufacturers, according to the companies.
