One thing the US has always done well is remembering its heroes. The recent tour by Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress 44-83514 Sentimental Journey and North American B-25J Mitchell 43-35972 Maid In The Shade across the western United States coincided with the 80th anniversary of the arrival of 'the Mighty Eighth' in Europe. The tour was not, however, directly linked to this date - it's just another fine example of what the US warbird movement does so well every year. Both aircraft belong to the Commemorative Air Force's (CAF) Airbase Arizona -the purpose of the tour was to offer revenue flights to enthusiasts, thereby offering aviation fans the trip of a lifetime while simultaneously keeping these magnificent machines in the air. It should not need stating that every flight made by these aircraft is a salute to those who risked all during wartime.
