We think automotive oddballs can make fantastic cheap wheels. The 2003-2006 Subaru Baja, a rather unique car/SUV/pickup combination, is offbeat and affordable- in other words, just right. The U.S.-built Baja was based on Suba-ru's then-current SUV-flavored Outback station wagon. Baja wasn't a conventional pickup. Rather, it was more along the lines of the contemporary SUV-based Chevrolet Avalanche. In a nutshell, Subaru removed Outback's rear roof section, walled off the passenger compartment behind the rear seat, lengthened the rear bodywork, and added an open cargo bed. Unlike traditional body-on-frame pickups with a separate cargo box, Ba-ja's bed was integrated into its unibody structure.
