摘要

The kinetics of oxidation of nicotinic acid in acid perchlorate medium by permanganate has been studied. The kinetics exhibits second order reaction viz. first order with respect to each reactant. The rate is independent of ionic strength. The activation energy (△E*) to be (18 ± 2) kJ mol~(-1) and activation entropy (△S*) to be (-205 ±15) J K~(-1) mol~(-1) were calculated by employing the Eyring equation. A plausible reaction mechanism has been suggested.
