The dispersion of the Verdet constant of several inorganic and organic liquids was measured at room temperature with a pulsed magnetic field in the spectral range from 0.3471 &mgr;m up to 0.6943 &mgr;m. We also measured the Verdet constant, at the wavelength of 0.4579 &mgr;m and at room temperature, of the three binary systems methanol–water, ethanol–water, and acetic acid–water. We found that the Verdet constant of mixtures is not additive. The deviation from additivity is positive for the three systems.
