Our final meeting of the year was at the beautiful estate of Forglen, near Turriff in Aberdeenshire, just west of River Deveron. It was formerly the seat of the Ogilvies of Banff, who improved and planted the policies in the 18th century. The Abercromby family built Forglen House in the 19th century, and it was sold to Tristan Russell and his family in 1974. They own and run Boh Plantations, the oldest and largest tea producer in Malaysia. Their commitment to high agricultural standards, with biodiverse habitats alongside commercial forestry, is overseen at Forglen by estate manager Grant McDowell, who has held the post for over 20 years.
