A detailed survey of the invertebrates of Coombe Hill Nature Reserve (SO8827) for the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust in 2022 found six species not previously known from the county (Alexander, 2018). The reserve comprises part of a low-lying area of fen meadow in the Severn Vale, alongside the disused Coombe Hill Canal which has SSSI status. It includes a network of old drainage ditches, old willow pollards and areas of willow scrub, the whole surrounded by hedgerows. The beetles associated with the canal in particular had been well-studied by David Atty during his residency in the county, making the reserve one of the best-studied sites in the county, and so it was a surprise to find six additions, of which five appear to be overlooked long-term residents.
