摘要

Mixed conducting oxides are frequently studied as electrode materials for solidoxide fuel or electrolysis cells. However, in principle their ability to changestoichiometry depending on the oxygen chemical potential also enables chargestorage typical for battery electrodes: Formally neutral oxygen can be incorporatedby annihilating oxygen vacancies and creating electron holes, similar tothe incorporation of lithium in lithium ion battery electrodes. Electrodes withdifferent reducibility should thus allow operation of an oxide ion battery. This isexemplified for perovskite-type La_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)FeO_(3?δ) (LSF), La_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Cr_(0.2)Mn_(0.8)O_(3?δ)(LSCrMn), and La_(0.9)Sr_(0.1)CrO_(3?δ) (LSCr) electrodes with blocked oxygen surfaceexchange. Cells with thin film electrodes are prepared by pulsed laserdeposition on yttria stabilized zirconia electrolytes. Charge/discharge cyclesand impedance measurements are performed on half cells between 350 and500 ℃ and related to the materials defect chemistry. Electrode capacities ofup to 350 mA h cm~(?3) and 99 % and good cycling performance. This novel type of rechargeable batterymay open further application fields such as elevated temperatures (>200 ℃),where common cation-based cells are not applicable so far.
