In recent years, the social environment in which we are immersed has rapidly changed due to technological innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analysis. Even in program production and Internet services, AI and big data are used for more efficient program production and to improve the utility of viewer services. However, ethical and legal issues may arise when we attempt to implement such new technologies in society. Anticipating such concerns, our institute has established a humanities-sciences joint project in conjunction with the NHK Broadcasting Culture Research Institute and has been working on research for solving the various problems involved with the social implementation of media technologies from the perspective of ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI).
