This is the story of the author's love affair with that most elegant of post-war British fighters - the Hawker Hunter. It begins with Murray joining the Royal Rhodesian Air Force as a technician, before training as a pilot and being posted to the Hunter in the early 1970s. Murray's passion for the aircraft continues to this day, and he currently owns a static display example. This book is more than a personal story - it's an insight into military flying in Africa. This includes memoirs of flying Mirages in South Africa when Rhodesian Air Force pilots and groundcrew manned an entire flight of an SAAF squadron. Back in Rhodesia, the affair with the Hunter continued, after time spent flying helicopters during the Bush War. Murray eventually left what had become the Air Force of Zimbabwe, to fly for commercial airlines. It was not the end of the affair, though, as he briefly flew the Hunter again, this time in Somali Air Force colours. It's very much a personal account full of interesting and fun stories, including that of galloping a horse through the Mess! A great read.
