More than 50 large US energy customers transacted for clean energy in 2021 — a 32% rise over 2020 — with customers announcing a record 11.06 GW of new clean energy capacity in 2021, exceeding 2020’s 10.74 GW total, the Clean Energy Buyers Association said May 17. “In 2021, energy customers procured more clean energy than in any previous year tracked by CEBA despite continued global challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical crises with wide ranging implications for energy systems,” according to the Clean Energy Buyers State of the Market 2022 report. Large commercial and industrial energy customers have collectively contracted for more than 52 GW of incremental utility-scale, off-site clean energy capacity since 2014 in the US, the report said.
