The attributes of the Hurricane were admirably demonstrated by No 6 Squadron. Flying the Hawker fighter in the ground attack role, its qualities as a stable gun platform were much to the fore, as was its sturdiness in the face of battle damage. This new title focuses solely on the 'Flying Canopeners', as the squadron was - and is still - known on account of its emblem, and their operation of the Hurricane IV during wartime in Italy and the Balkans, moving on to post-war activities in Palestine and Cyprus, by which time the type was nearing the end of its RAF service career. Indeed, No 6 Squadron saw it out of the air force's front line, on 15 January 1947.
