Lucretia (Fig. la) is a newly discovered painting of the Italian baroque artist, Artemisia Gentileschi [1]. This magnificent painting (? Artcurial) was discovered in a private collection in the South-Eastern French city of Lyon, where it had been stored unrecognized for 40 years. It was recently auctioned for € 4,777,000 (https://www.theguardian.com/ education/2019/nov/1 3/artemisia-gentileschis-painting-lucretia-sold-for-almost-48m). Lucretia, the wife of Roman consul and general, Tarquinius Collatinus, is depicted at the moment of her suicide after she was blackmailed and raped by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the Etruscan tyrant and last king of Rome, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus (the Proud).
