The North Sea oil and gas industry is being asked to help out with the £500,000 ($625,000) cost of ensuring the future of public gardens in Aberdeen commemorating the 167 men who died in the Piper Alpha rig disaster. The Pound for Piper Memorial Trust plans to redesign the North Sea Memorial Gardens, in the city's Hazlehead Park, so they remain a place of comfort and reflection for many more years. The trust is calling on the industry, which has been generating bumper profits on the back of soaring oil and gas prices, to help foot the bill.
