This summary of low tension glaucoma discusses the difficulties of defining the disease, its prevalence and pathophysiology. The clinical presentation is contrasted with that of open angle glaucoma accompanied by high intraocular pressure in terms of differences in the optic nerve head appearance and visual field changes. The similarities of low tension glaucoma to anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy are also addressed. Current treatment options and optometric management of patients having low tension glaucoma and risk factors for this disease are summarised.
