Marathon Petroleum's 593,000 b/d Galveston Bay refinery in Texas City, Texas, has seen a decrease in petroleum coke quality since late December, reportedly because of maintenance at the facility that will be completed by the end of the first quarter, returning the coke to 3pc sulphur anode-grade quality. Sulphur content rose at the end of December to 5.65pc on a dry basis, up from 3.54-3.84pc in prior weeks of the month, according to a recent quality analysis. Sulphur content remained higher than 5pc in January.
