Indian battery maker Exide Industries expects to start commercial production at the first phase of its upcoming 6GW Liion cell manufacturing plant in Karnataka state by the second or third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2024. Exide Energy Solutions (EESL), a subsidiary of Exide, is setting up a 12GW Li-ion cell manufacturing plant in Karna-taka within the next 8-10 years. The plant would be built up in phases - the first phase of 6GW capacity is expected to be ready in the next two years, after which commercial production would start. The 12GW Li-ion plant is a part of a multiyear technical collaboration agreement with Chinese battery manufacturer Svolt Energy Technology to produce Li-ion cells in India.
