Prices for 5.5pc dry basis sulphur coke on a cfr Turkey basis gained a further $4.50/t on the week to $179/t. The increase, largely on the back of tight supply and growing China demand pushing up fob levels, brings prices closer to the breakeven point with Russian coal. Even so, coke demand remains stable. One cement plant issued a new tender seeking 55,000t of seaborne mid-or high-sulphur coke, while another re-issued a tender, originally announced in September, for 50,000t of mid-sulphur coke. A third buyer was collecting ofers but had yet to announce a tender. And market partici-pants expect more tenders to be issued later this month.
