European refners may shut 1.4mn b/d capacity

European refners are likely to shut 1.4mn b/d of crude distil- lation capacity in the next fve years, the same amount that has been permanently closed in the past fve, according to the World Oil Outlook published yesterday by Opec. That will be part of 4.5mn b/d closing down globally between now and 2026, with rationalisation in some regions accelerated by the demand shock of the Covid-19 pandemic.
