"You want me to introduce myself? You already know who I am."That is how Gustav Peichl responded a few years ago in an interview he gave to a student TV magazine programme. Yes, we know him. We knew him. In the professional world, he was known simply as "the Peichl".The media invariably referred to him as a "star architect", and he was arguably one of the few people who bore that title rightly and with dignity. To a certain extent, he owed his popularity to his work as a caricaturist under the pseudo-nym Ironimus, and to the special significance of his buildings - but also to the fact that, to the very end, he never shied away from taking a pointed stance on current political and archi-tectural issues and events.
