This book provides a comprehensive guide to design, with an emphasis on tapestry weaving. The author is an accomplished weaver, specialising in large format tapestries inspired by nature, who also recognises the role of smaller scale works as a non-threatening method to experiment with design, whilst practising techniques. The book is divided into four sections, beginning with an eloquent explanation of the fundamentals of visual design. This is followed by a multitude of intriguing suggestions to inspire the reader to experiment with the principles of design by delving into the elements described in part one. The weaver is then encouraged to discover their own ideas and develop them into a completed design. The author suggests that the student pauses, critiques the design and makes changes before starting to weave but 'making tapestries is ultimately your best teacher'.
