Euronav, one of the world’s largest tanker owners and operators, said Oct. 24 it ordered another two Suezmaxes that can run on an alternative fuel via simple retrofits in the future. In a press release, the New York-and Euronext-listed company said it ordered two Suezmax ships at South Korean shipyard Daehan Shipbuilding, with the structure notation to be “LNG-ready.” Additionally, the company said Euronav and Daehan were working closely to make the vessels also “ammonia-and methanol-ready.” When they are delivered in the third quarter of 2024, the ships will be fitted with scrubbers and ballast water treatment systems and will initially run on conventional oil-based fuels.
