PETROBRAS is facing new delays in the start-up of a third trunk-line from the Brazilian oil giant's key pre-salt fields located in the deep waters of the Santos basin. The 355-kilometre Route 3 pipeline will transport up to 18 million cubic metres per day of gas from Brazil's pre-salt fields to an onshore natural gas processing unit (UPGN) at the Petro-bras-run Comperj petrochemicals complex in Rio de Janeiro state. The Route 3 duct will, as the name suggests, be the third trunkline to provide a transit system for associated gas from giant oilfields in the Santos basin to shore, but the project has been dogged by construction problems along the way.
