BOEING IS currently developing performance improvements for the 787 Dreamliner, the company's commercial aviation chief disclosed. Work is underway on payload/range increases for the 787-10 variant, Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal told The Seattle Times early in 2022. Deal gave no further details, nor a timeline for introducing upgrades. According to Boeing's Airplane Characteristics for Airport Planning document, the 787-10 has a 560,000lb (254,011kg) maximum take-off weight (MT0W). It offers a 126,300lb (57,277kg) maximum payload and 6,430nm (11,910km) range, and can seat 330 passengers two-class (or 440 maximum). The 787-10's direct competitor, the Airbus A350-900, can fly further at 8,100nm (15,000km) and has a slightly lower payload (124,300lb/56,400kg), but it offers a higher MT0W (617,295lb/280,000kg). It can seat 350 passengers two-class (or 440 maximum).
