Occasionally, lithops astonish when encountered in the wild. They are indeed very variable in their habits. Evolution produces extreme-looking individuals and some plants grow in unusual habitats. Ute aim of this article is to show a few of such natural rarities using photographs and accompanying explanations. It is surely the essence of twenty field trips entirely dedicated to lithops in southern Africa over the past 16 years resulting in 482 documented lithops colonies (Jainta, 2017; Jainta & Jainta, 2019; 2020). We thank Carl Grobbelaar for editing the manuscript.
