摘要

Antimicrobial activity of Cichorium intybus, Dorema aucheri and Prangos ferulacea on food borne pathogens is described. Antimicrobial activity was assessed by agar diffusion and microtiter broth dilution method against Staph aureus, Bacillus subtilis,Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Citrobacter freundii, Salmonella enteritidis, Enterococcus aeroguns and Klebsiella pneumoniae. By disc diffusion, zones of inhibition varied 5 to 16 mm. Salmonella enteritidis and Citrobacter freundii appeared more sensitive to extracts. Dorema aucheri and Prangos ferulacea inhibited Salmonella enteritidis and Enterococcus aerogenes more than Cichorium intybus whereas Cichorium intybus and Prangos ferulacea more than Dorema aucheri against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes and Cichorium intybus and Prangos ferulacea produced greater inhibition than Dorema aucheri against Klebsiella pneumonia. Cichorium intybus showed most inhibition on Bacillus subtilis. Microtiter broth dilution results confirmed disc diffusion with pearson correlation coefficient between both methods r~2 = 0.87 (p < 0.01).
