In leno weave, the density of warp and weft is coarse, so yarn slip is likely to occur. For this reason, a special type of heald frame (doup heald, half heald) is used so that two adjacent warps twist and intersect in a way in which one or more wefts are sandwiched. Since the warps are locked with the wefts, it is effective for preventing yarn slip. Leno weave is synonymous with gauze weave, and typical items are leno cloth, gauze and silk gauze.
