It's been a few months since updating you on Sheldon's progress with his new 1293cc engine. I'm pleased to say he's now cracked the 500-mile mark but there have been a few tweaks on the way. It's always a bit nerve-racking to drive a Mini with a freshly-built engine. I've enriched the mixture by one flat on each HS2 carb as he was running just above normal temperature. It has calmed things down. The 3,000rpm limit gets us to 50mph which is OK for A- and B-road running-in sessions. In fact, trips down to the seaside for a bag of chips, on a fading summer's evening, have been great fun. Coming back in the dark hasn't been such fun, particularly when you spot a large deer weighing up whether it can compete with a Mini. Thankfully Bambi stayed put whilst Sheldon roared past. The fuel 'crisis', i.e panic buying, did slow the run-in process down a bit. To finish running-in and to get to Brooklands Mini Day I had to fill the tank with E5 Super. I bet those EV (electric vehicle) drivers are laughing now.
