Reducing worldwide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the power and transportation sectors is required for mitigating the worst impacts of climate change. According to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), reducing annual GHG emissions by 45 percent by 2030, compared to 2010 levels, will limit net global temperature increases to 1.5oC.1 Reduction in carbon-based pollutants, largely in the forms of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), are the principal aims of GHG reduction efforts constituting the bulk of global “decarbonization” efforts.
