EXOSONIC, INC, the Los Angeles-based supersonic transport development company, has received a US Air Force contract to study a 'low-boom' supersonic uncrewed aerial vehicle specifically for pilot training. A 15-month Direct to Phase Ⅱ Small Business Innovation Research contract has been awarded jointly by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Air Combat Command, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Presidential and Executive Airlift Directorate. An Exosonic statement explained: "This supersonic UAV will help the pilot training mission by acting as a near-peer adversary fighter to challenge fighter pilots in live flight training." The UAV will act as a mock adversary for fighter pilots in live flight training. Exosonic said: "Equipped with various payloads and sensors, training can be conducted at a fraction of the cost of existing live air training solutions. This will enable fighter pilots to focus their flight time on blue air training instead of flying as the enemy for fellow pilots."
