Do you remember the English Electric Lightning that lay mouldering away next to the A1 in Lincolnshire for 30 years? Well, this is how it looks now! The surviving cockpit section of Lightning F.2A XN728 was officially unveiled to the public during Cockpit-Fest 2021, held at Newark Air Museum, Lincolnshire, over the Bank Holiday weekend of August 28-30. Dubbed the 'Al Lightning' and owned by noted exponent of the type Darren Swinn, XN728 - one of only four F.2A survivors in the UK - spent nearly three decades next to the Al close to the village of Balderton, where its vandalised remains gained fame as a landmark for travellers.
