EXCITEMENT is building in US-based Murphy Oil over the oil and gas potential of five blocks it has secured offshore the Ivory Coast, with chief executive Roger Jenkins highlighting how major prospects similar to Eni's nearby Baleine discovery and Tullow Oil's Jubilee field in next door Ghana have already been identified.Speaking at a JP Morgan event yesterday, Jenkins also stressed Murphy is committed to develop the legacy Paon oil and gas discovery, previously operated by Anadarko Petroleum.Earlier this week, Murphy and state-owned Petroci signed production sharing contracts for five blocks - CI-102, CI-103, CI-502, CI-531 and CI-709- offshore the Ivory Coast, Murphy's first foray back into Africa after leaving some years ago.Jenkins said that in CI-531 "we have a lookalike structure to the Eni discovery - a carbonate discovery, a different type of opportunity for us".
