Exporters and importers of several bulk commodities may have to deal with high freight rates and shipping inefciencies for some time to come, according to shipbroker Braemar ACM. Although the Baltic Dry Index — which tracks average prices for the transport of dry bulk materials across a variety of shipping routes — has fallen sharply to 2,607 on 16 Novem- ber from an all-time high of 5,652 on 6 October, it is still more than double the 1,078 of 16 November last year and fve times higher than mid-May last year.
