The British World War Two de Havilland Mosquito can rightly be considered as the world's first true multi-role combat aircraft. With the introduction of the jet engine, the late 1940s brought the need for a 'Jet Mosquito' and the resulting English Electric Canberra was another great success. But this aircraft was subsonic and by the mid-1950s there was a growing need for a supersonic 'Canberra Replacement'. The result was the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) TSR.2, possibly the most controversial British aircraft of all time!
