Weak demand looms over China thermal market

China's domestic thermal coal market is bracing for weaker demand with prospects of muted industrial activity and faltering coal consumption at utilities, despite Beijing's move to scrap its strict zero-Covid policy to lift economic growth. The country's lunar new year holidays officially ended during the lantern festival on 5 February, although industrial production is still faltering with subdued demand for end products and an absence of workers.
