Halacaridae is an aquatic mite family in the order Trombodiformes in the subclass Acari. The family contains about 1,100 species classified in 15 subfamilies and 60 genera. The current information on the classification, morphology, life history, diversity and phylogeny of halacarid mites is given in order to spread the scientific knowledge of the marine mites in Japan.
